What is it with Virginia Governor Tim Kaine and Delaware?

The most-viewed post in the history of this blog came at Gov. Kaine’s expense, when he wrongly asserted (in some detail) that his state of Virginia borders Delaware.  In fact, that moment came when he was justifying Obama’s selection of Joe Biden for Vice President, despite Biden’s penchant for gaffes.

Now, Kaine has the former Senator from Delaware introducing him as “the great governor of New Jersey.”  For the record, New Jersey does, in fact, border Delaware.

Perhaps some geographic payback from the First State?  Biden was using a teleprompter, after all…

They just keep on giving…. Rather incredibly, less than 48 hours after Tim Kaine’s significant geographical error reminded us all of Democrats’ struggles this election cycle with our nation’s fifty nifty states, Obama flubbed again tonight on national television, speaking with his family:

Barack: I’m here with the Gerardo family, here in St. Louis. This is Jim and Alicia, and like us…

Sasha: Hi Dorado family! [adorable kid]

Barack:…they’ve got daughters. [Laughter] We’ve got Lindsey, we’ve got Hannah, and we’ve got Grace over here. And they’ve just been wonderful hosts, the whole time we’ve been watching.

Did I mention that this entire exchange occurred under a banner saying “Kansas City, MO?” Oh — well, at least one Obama was paying attention:

Sasha: Daddy, what city are you in?

Barack: I’m in Kansas City….

Barack Obama, are you smarter than a third grader? Truly stunning.

UPDATE: Geraghty notices the gaffe (along with 30 million others, I’m sure) and makes a wise observation on the baseball politics involved.

We’ll never know how close Virginia Governor Tim Kaine was to being named the VP nominee, but he wasted no time this morning showing us why Obama made the right choice to leave him behind. Speaking this morning on Fox News Sunday about how the Biden pick will help Democrats in Virginia, Kaine has a curious answer:

Well, first, Joe comes from a state, Delaware, that borders Virginia. The eastern shore part of Delaware and Virginia are not only bordering but very very similar.

Um…not really.

In case you can’t tell, there’s about 50 miles of Maryland between Delaware and Virginia. Before becoming VP, Governor, you should try knowing the geography of your own state. Then again, he’s got this in common with Barack:

Democrats in 2008 – proving to America how badly we need school choice.
